2005-2007 Integrated Concurrent Design of High Efficiency Commercial Buildings United Technologies Research Center. NIST ATP Program
Principal Investigator
: Prof. Khee Poh Lam
This project includes literature review of building performance and high performance commercial buildings, the design of an integrated concurrent building design and engineering workflow, and implementation of a prototypical lighting simulation tool that drastically reduces logistical overheads.
A live quick service restaurant energy retrofit project was conducted to demonstrate the integrated concurrented workflow. This included lighting simulations and HVAC design.
Following findings on operative information in design processes, as well as data requirements and data flows, an XML-based building information model (BIM) was proposed and a prototypical lighting simulation tool was implemented in Java.
